Time for another edition of “Hiking NJ” and in this webisode we are off to Monmouth County. Our latest trails are at Perrineville Lake Park  in Millstone Township. About an hour drive from Southern Ocean County. I took RT 539 most of the way so it was a scenic ride with no tolls.

Basically Perrineville Lake Park  has four trails:

  • Rocky Brook: 2.4 miles and is listed as moderate with a few inclines and muddy areas, but was not too difficult but a good hike. The trail is not a loop so we went out 2.4 miles and back, so roughly a 5 mile hike. Nice views along the way, some horse riders and lots of trees. Trail was marked well. There is a separate entrance and parking area for this trail. Huge fields that you walk through that connect the trail into wooded areas and a nice view of wetlands. This time of year, early November, you can see the beautiful colors of Fall.
  • Quail Run: Follow this 0.5 mile path to extend your forested walk along Rocky Brook. For Pedestrians Only.
  • Lakeside Loop: Follow an old farm road with views of Perrineville Lake on this moderate 1.5 mile loop.
  • Pine Creek Trail: Walk this moderate 1 mile trail through fields and tall pines.

April & I enjoyed the park. It has lots of space and lots of pretty views to keep your mind active while enjoying this hike. Just a bit of elevation, yes some mud, well marked and a nice escape through beautiful Millstone farm lands.

I would definitely recommend hiking shoes as opposed to sneakers, this way you’ll deal with the mud and the lovely presents left by neighboring horses. We did see several bird species but som many trees it’s hard to get a good photo, but enjoy.

Another successful hike, see you next time for Hiking NJ
