The lighthouse is the second oldest in New Jersey and the only remaining land based lighthouse on the Delaware Bay.

If your looking for a lighthouse daytrip then maybe a trip to Cumberland County. East Point Lighthouse, located on the State's southern bayshore, was built in 1849 and is second oldest to only Sandy Hook Light. The trip took about 90 minutes from Ocean County. Most of the ride (southbound) is on the Garden State Parkway.

There are areas to hike around the Lighthouse and along the shore, but I would definitely do it in early spring or late fall because the "flies" can be a bit much at times during summer....but doable. Being a bay front lighthouse makes it a fav for the infamous "Jersey Greenheads"

There is fantastic views, beach, fishing areas and wildlife to take in while visiting East Point. The lighthouse is on the "Lighthouse Challenge" list here in New Jersey ... happening this October.
