I can't believe that we already have a week's worth of voting in the books for Mascot Madness 2020, but the time has arrived to set the first head to head matchups in this year's competition to find the best high school mascot in Ocean County!

The quarterfinals feature past champions, past runners-up, and one of the biggest high school rivalries in Ocean County.

Here are your 2020 Ocean County Mascot Madness quarterfinalists:

Matchup 1 - Lacey Lions (1) vs. Barnegat Bengals (8)

The first head to head matchup this year pits the defending champion Lacey Lions against fellow southern Ocean County big cats, the Barnegat Bengals.

Matchup 2 - Brick Township Green Dragons (2) vs. Central Regional Golden Eagles (7)

This matchup features two past runners-up. The Brick Township Green Dragons came in 2nd in 2018 to the Toms River North Mariners and in 2017 to the Toms River South Indians. The Central Regional Golden Eagles slipped in the final round last year as their rival Lacey Lions roared to the title.

Matchup 3 - Point Pleasant Beach Garnet Gulls (3) vs. Point Pleasant Borough Panthers (6)

These are the matchups I live for. Does it get much better than Point Beach vs. Point Boro? Point Pleasant pride is on the line as the Garnet Gulls battle the Panthers.

Matchup 4 - Toms River South Indians (4) vs. Brick Memorial Mustangs (5)

A battle of former champions rounds out our 2020 quarterfinals as the 2017 Mascot Madness champions, the Toms River South Indians go up against the winners of our 2018 School Spirit campaign, the Brick Memorial Mustangs.

So, there you have it, your 2020 Ocean County Mascot Madness quarterfinalists!

As always, you can vote once a day through Sunday, March 15th.
