The Most Popular State Parks in New Jersey

We are at a time of the year when millions will be heading outdoors and enjoying some exercise and vitamin D. We have been inside all winter and most of spring with lots of rainy weekends and we all want some "outdoor" time and we have some fantastic state parks for us to enjoy. We have great parks here in New Jersey and over the years my Wife and I have traveled to many of these parks you can read lots of individual reviews on my page entitled Hiking New Jersey.

Northern Region

1. The most popular selection with nearly 4.5 million visitors (most recent annual visitor data from the state Department of Environmental Protection) is Liberty State Park in Jersey City. This NJ state park is highlighted by visitors heading to the Statue of Liberty, Liberty Science Center, and Ellis Island. It is a fantastic day, seeing some great landmarks and the amazing Hudson River and the sights. This park is by far the most visited state park in New Jersey with 4,431,625 visitors.

2. Ringwood State Park, Ringwood - 505,709 visitors

3. Wawayanda State Park, Hewitt - 333,435 visitors

4. High Point State Park, Wantage - 276,709 visitors

5. Kittatinny Valley State Park, Andover Township - 191,209 visitors

 

 

Central Region

1. This region is highlighted by a trip to Princeton and the D & R Canal State Park with 1.1 million visitors. Activities at this park include "biking, hiking, bird watching, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hunting, history, and nature tours, picnicking" I have not personally visited this park but it is on my list to visit.

2. Allaire State Park, Farmingdale - 510,634 visitors

3. Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Manalapan - 406,334 visitors

4. Washington Crossing State Park, Titusville - 379,915 visitors

5. Cheesequake State Park, Matawan - 254,068 visitors

Southern Region

1. The most popular park in this region is located in Ocean County. Island Beach State Park in Seaside Park with nearly 800,000 visitors. This park is "a day at the beach" literally.

2. Cape May Point State Park, Cape May Point - 682,550 visitors

3. Parvin State Park, Pittsgrove - 489,442 visitors

4. Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, Barnegat Light - 363,760

5. Corson's Inlet State Park, Ocean City - 339,351 visitors
