The North Beach Patrol said its members come from “all walks of life,” and include teachers, nurses, physical trainers, surfers and students. In its essay, the patrol said its equipment is often vandalized or often malfunctions. “We currently have no place to store our beach vehicles, first-aid kits, oxygen, radios and other necessary equipment to function on a daily basis. If awarded the $10,000 we would build a garage to lock up our vehicles and lifesaving equipment to protect it and in turn protect our public,” the essay said.
