So it’s Happy Birthday 92.7 WOBM on Monday! March 1st 1968 Ocean County got its first FM broadcast radio station. WOBM ..... aka Ocean, Burlington, Monmouth. The tri-county station. The station I did mornings at for six years prior to coming to WOBM, 95.9 WADB, went on the air a few months after on October 4th, 1968.

92.7 WOBM celebrates it’s 53rd birthday and it’s hard to believe I have now been morning show host for nearly half the existence of the radio station.....going into my 25th year in November! (longest running morning show in station history) Kevin Williams is our elder statesman with 42 years at WOBM. Kevin began his long running tenure on July 23rd 1979, I was a freshman at Southern Regional! Also marks three years since we lost the legendary Bob Levy, who we all still miss.

It has been a fantastic quarter century at 92.7 WOBM and I’ve worked with some great people over the years and of course some real “not so good” too lol but I am grateful for the career and the memories. Sue Moll and I have been together now almost 18 years and it’s been a pleasure, in fact Sue and I are the longest running morning show team in station history and yes we actually still like each other lol.

Speaking of memories, that’s what I’d like to hear from YOU ..... what are your first memories of 92.7 WOBM? I have shared this memory before, but I think it’s my oldest.

I was young, maybe 10, and the “DJ” on air at 92.7 WOBM was doing a contest. This was around 1975 and the “DJ” asked what was a particular actors favorite cigarettes 🚬 lol fun right, so I asked my Grandfather or Dad and they said “Chesterfields” which I had know idea of and I can’t remember the actor as well. I called in and got through and said in my deepest voice....”Chesterfields” and I won! It was my “major award”.

So what did I win? What was my “major award”? 5 boxes of pasta 🍝! Yup I won spaghetti lol My first recollection of 92.7 WOBM and one I’ll never forget.

In conclusion: I could not have asked for a better career in broadcasting 📻 then the one I have had here at 92.7 WOBM. Being at the Jersey Shore and being local and a part of this great community is a blessing and one I truly enjoy and will look back on with many smiles 😀

Tell us YOUR first memories of 92.7 WOBM and be sure to scroll through some photos I grabbed from my 25 years here at 92.7 WOBM :)
