After spending much of the year on the rise, gas prices have dropped, thanks to a decline in the cost of oil. Its welcome news to jersey drivers.

Gas prices won’t be setting any records this summer or approaching the dreaded $4.00 per gallon mark as many had expected.

“It looks like we are going to pay 10 to 30 cents less than what we paid last year, but still its about $1.00 more than what we paid last year so you can’t get too excited about it” said Tom Kloza at the Oil Price Information Service in Wall Township.

“Its great that prices are going down, absolutely…people need to have a little more money in their pocket” said one woman from Brick.

“I love pulling up to the pump and seeing it less expensive than the day before.”

But some say filling up still hurts.

“I wish it was lower, I put $20.00 dollars in and this just helps me get more mileage for my money” said one man from Toms River.

“I own a landscaping business so everything runs on gas…I wish it would go back to the days of $.2.00 a gallon gas” said another man.

The cheaper gas could encourage some drivers to take a road trip this summer.

“We are definitely going on vacation if the price stays like this…maybe take a trip to Florida.”

However, Kloza cautions that tensions with Iran and hurricane season in late July and early August could still drive prices up.

“You have to be careful during those months and we could see prices rise upward, but for at least the next sixty days this is about the average price most drivers will be paying.”

The average price for a gallon of regular in New Jersey today is $3.60, about 12 cents cheaper than the national average of $3.72.
