Five Nabbed In Red Bank Drug Bust
Five people from Red Bank face charges connected to a probe of suspected drug distribution in the borough.
Bail was set between $300,000 and more than $350,000 for Charles Johnson, 23; Charles Wilson, 25; Kareem Smith, 23; and David Hutchinson, 25, all of Red Bank. The fifth suspect, 21-year-old Chantal Tharrington, was released on recognizance.
Police say that the arrests during a Wednesday-night warrant search stem from an investigation by Sergeant Robert Clayton of activity centered in a house on Spring Street. Authorities say they found cocaine and marijuana, distribution materials, $8,000 and a loaded handgun.
Each was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute in a school zone, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon while distributing narcotics, and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
Johnson, Smith and Hutchinson are also charged with certain persons not to possess a weapon.
Investigators from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and K9 units from the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office were also involved in the search.
