As spring approaches (16 days!), a lot of people will be heading outdoors to enjoy nature right in our own backyard. Sometimes though, you don't want to make your trip hours long.

Well, lucky for us, two Ocean County parks were named among "The Best Hikes Under 5 Miles".

We actually just talked about the website OnlyInYourState earlier this week with "The NJ Donut Trail", so we can look at today's list as a way to work off all of those fried desserts.

Among nearby destinations like the Manasquan Reservoir and Batsto Village (which I've included previously on my list of the best nearby nature destinations), both Cattus Island County Park and Jakes Branch County Park get shoutouts.

I've also written about Cattus Island before. It really is one of my favorite destinations in Ocean County. I love the fact that mere feet from the constant traffic of Fischer Boulevard, you can escape into nature.
