This past weekend turned out to be a beautiful weather weekend. I wanted to do something outdoors but I didn't want to travel far. A friend suggested a trip to Cattus Island County Park.

I'd heard of Cattus Island County Park before, I knew it was nearby, but I'd never been. So I leashed up my dog, hopped into the car, and drove all of 10 minutes into the middle of nature.

Immediately after I got there, I was disappointed that I hadn't gone out sooner.

It's amazing that only one turn off of Fischer Blvd can make you feel like you're in the middle of woods and marshlands.

Cattus Island did suffer significant damage from Hurricane Sandy, but, of the 500 acres, around half of the trails are open.

It's a great option to get outdoors and not have to travel far at all. If you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of Toms River, it's only a short drive between strip malls & traffic lights and trees, marshes, and wildlife.
