With No Santa Train This Year, A New Jersey Nonprofit Needs Our Help

As we continue to plow through 2020 at what feels like breakneck speed (especially the 2nd half of the year so far, in my opinion), we're about to hit the holiday season full-on.

Sadly, because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, a New Jersey nonprofit that's been working hard to preserve our railroad history will be without its signature seasonal event in 2020.

Every year, the Tri-State Railway Historical Society hosts a Santa Train, giving families the chance to ride the rails through scenic North Jersey with the big guy himself.

The Santa Train is the Tri-State Railway Historical Society's biggest annual fundraiser, funds that they depend on for restoration and preservation work on their historic rail equipment that includes locomotives, passenger cars, and cabooses representing 100+ years of railroad history.

Currently, the society is working on restoring a nearly 80-year-old caboose that rode the rails of the Raritan River Railroad right here in the Garden State.

The most impressive part to me is the fact that the Raritan River Railroad caboose isn't even the oldest piece in their collection, that title goes to a 103-year-old Erie Railroad car.

In the absence of a Santa Train for 2020, the Tri-State Railway Historical Society needs our help to keep their mission of preserving our railroad history going.
