Right before summer we found out that a long-rumored Shake Shack near the Shore was being denied.

With the popular burger and shake chain growing at a rapid pace recently, between North and South Jersey, the Shore is the only area still without a Shake Shack within reasonable driving distance.

But that's about to change.

About a month and a half ago we told you about the fact that the Monmouth Service Area would be shutting down for the better part of a year, and is now closed until next Memorial Day.

When the announcement was made back in July, Turnpike Authority officials only cryptically said that the rest stop would be getting upgrades, which will include new restaurants.

I think at this point you can see where this is going.

Yes, the Shore area is getting that Shake Shack.

NJ.com reports that the new restaurants at the rest stop will include Shake Shack, another Shore area Chick-fil-A (which already has nearby locations in Brick and Howell. Plus there's a rumored Toms River location allegedly in the works), an Auntie Anne's, a Starbucks, and a convenience store.

So, while you'll have to go a bit longer on the Parkway before taking a pit stop, the wait will be worth it when next beach season rolls around and a restaurant that has been much envied here at the Shore will finally have a local presence.
