It appears that we may have a new pet, not that we adopted this one....but he/she may have adopted us. Recently we have had a four legged visitor to our home, usually around dinner time or later.

Our latest furry friend is "Bambi" or if it's not a girl...."Bambo". This deer seems to now live in the neighborhood and several times a week shows up to see what plants/flowers on our property he/she can eat.

One of Bambo's favorites....roses! "I have heard it said that deer look at roses like many of us do fine chocolates. Deer will eat the buds, blooms, foliage and even the thorny canes of rose bushes. They are especially fond of the new tender growth where the thorns are not so sharp and firm yet." ~ Stan Griep "American Rose Society"

GardeningKnowHow.Com  has tips on how to save your roses from Bambo and his friends. Deer usually do their browsing damage at night and occasionally you may see deer eating roses during the day.

Another plant we have found to be the deer' favorite....the hosta. "For deer, hosta plants are like candy. Some hostas are marketed as containing a degree of deer resistance, but as with all deer resistant plants, when these critters are hungry enough, they’ll eat anything. So no hosta is truly safe." ~ Julie Martens

We will keep an eye out for Bambo and hopefully he will spare the roses and maybe go for something else......I've got plenty of dandelions!
