Emergency operations in Ocean and Monmouth Counties get just over $230,000 each in federal Homeland Security funding for fiscal 2012, part of a $27,800,000 statewide allotment announced today by the administration of Governor Chris Christie.

The allotments place the two central shore counties at just about midpoint among the amounts for all 21 counties in New Jersey.

The federal Department of Homeland Security is spreading $1,003,000,000 across the country to support anti-terrorism efforts around critical infrastructure and high-risk areas. That's a reduction of more than $800,000,000 from 2011.

Money from the allocations is used for emergency management and domestic preparedness initiatives.

New Jersey's seven-county Urban Area Security Initiative receives about $21,600,000, the sixth-highest amount among UASI regions nationwide. The region that includes Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic and Union Counties, according to state officials, is one of 11 Tier-One urban areas considered at high risk for terrorist attacks.

New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and Pennsylvania compete for shares of $58,000,000 in the Port Security Grant Program. Non-profit groups in 16 counties can compete for grants of up to $75,000 in the UASI Nonprofit Security Grant Program.
