If you are looking for a new adventure, then maybe you will wanna try rail biking like we did this past weekend. April and I traveled to North Creek, New York to try this new outdoor adventure. North Creek is nestled in the Adirondack Mountains and is a beautiful location to be outdoors. It is about a 5 hour drive from the Jersey Shore and is real close to Lake George which is a popular tourist destination.

Rail biking is just as the name implies, riding a bike on railroad tracks. Yes the bike is little different than your average bike and the railroad tracks are adandoned, but you get beautiful scenery, a workout (not over the top), history and fun for all ages.

The tour we did was with Revolution Rail Company which was founded in 2017. They have several tours a day and you want to book a reservation just to be safe .... traveling 5 hours and finding out they are filled doesn't sound fun.

You arrive at their station in North Creek to sign in and check out the train station. The station was part of the Hudson River Line (built in 1846) and the site is where Vice President Teddy Roosevelt made several stops in 1901 following the assination of President McKinley. Roosevelt was vacationing in the Adirondacks and had to make his way back to Buffalo, where McKinley was shot. So when you visit for the rail bikes you get some history too. Also several old trains are there to peek at.....train lovers will love it.

The bikes are very comfortable and easy to peddle. You can pick a two or four person bike. The ride goes out about mile and three quarters and you stop for a break and then back.....approximately 3 1/2 miles. The ride is scenic and you see, hear and cross the Hudson River. Breathtaking mountains and foliage are part of this Adirondack experience. The bikes are equipped with baskets so you can bring water, snack, camera etc. There are guides with you and they ride in front and back to make sure everyone is safe and sound.

We completely enjoyed this tour. From the station to the ride it was fantastic. We even had some deer join us along the way and tons of butterflies, which added to this great outdoor experience.

Check out my video to give you a sample of what this adventure is like, then get outdoors and enjoy Summer.
