So in full transparency I know that there are more critical matters at hand these days, but I want to talk about this issue because here in New Jersey we are deprived of our “left” turns. Yes here in the Garden State we must use the dreaded “jug handle” to get around town.

Literally we have to make 3 sometimes 4 turns just to get to the other side of the road. It can take 10 minutes to go 10 feet. In other states you simply make a left turn, that's it you turn your car left!

On google here is an explanation for why we have jug handles in New Jersey. “Jughandles eliminate the dangerous left turn across lanes of oncoming traffic, reducing the number of accidents, said Stephen Shapiro, a spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

Jug handles allegedly date back to the 1940’s as a way to relieve traffic, but does it? I see jug handles on Route 37 backed up to the main road. I just want to get to the other side of the road :( so yes I’m ready to “junk the jug handle”.

I found an interesting article dedicated to the Jersey Jug Handle from Trip Savvy it tries to treat the jug handle fairly, but I’m done with it.....let us turn left! Lol

Now lot of this is tongue and cheek, it's Friday, but I do think we should be able to make left turns at least on some NJ roadways. It’s annoying when your on a road that's empty but you still must make 3 right hand turns and sit through 5 minutes of lights just to get to the other side.

Why did the chicken cross the road? Because he didn't have to use a jug handle! Lol have a great weekend and drive safe 🚗
