A Look at the History of the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold, New Jersey
History is all around us and I think we are all guilty of not taking time to notice how much history we have here at the Jersey Shore and in New Jersey. I love history, which was my favorite subject in school, but like I said we all forget to take time and observe and learn about our history right here in Ocean and Monmouth Counties.
This time around I stopped to take a tour (outside) of the beautiful First Presbyterian Church of Freehold. What caught my eye was the height and the stonework involved in this beauty.
After doing some research it appears this church was started in 1871 and was completed in 1873. Making this church about 150 years old. If you ever get a chance to take a walk around this beauty you will see great architecture and history and it's right here at the Jersey Shore .....The church did have structural repairs and refurbishing over the years, but is looking good nearly 150 years after the first brick was laid.
If you belong to a church locally, what is the history of your building? are you older like this one or a newer construction? My church St. Theresa's in Little Egg Harbor is fairly new just opening a few years ago....a baby compared to this church in Freehols.
Enjoy photographs I took during my tour.
