A hot rumor is going around Ocean County about the future of one of the prime shopping centers in the township.

First and foremost, I have to give all the credit to my colleague Matt Ryan at our sister station 94.3 The Point for passing along the tip on this story.

So, as we all know, the Laurel Square shopping center has been going through a lot of changes lately.

First was the closure of PathMark in the fall of 2015, then just in March of this year we found out that the KMart would be closing as well. If you've been past lately, you've probably noticed that the store is empty, with the signs even having been taken down.

Only a day after the news of KMart's fate, we found out that a totally new store would be coming to the plaza, At Home Stores.

The impression that I got was that At Home would be new construction in Laurel Square, not taking over any of the vacant businesses.

According to the prevailing theory about this ShopRite rumor, that would make sense as ShopRite would apparently take over the former PathMark space.

Matt's article says that it will be a while before Brick shoppers get the new option, with fall of 2018 being the window for opening as of now.

So, what do you think? Is Laurel Square a good place for a ShopRite? Or is it too close to Wal-Mart and the existing ShopRite just down Route 70? Comment below or on our Facebook page and let us know what you think!
