Social media has given us an unprescedented insight into what people were going through as Hurricane Sandy wrought her destruction on Ocean County.

My friend, who I'll call "J", who lives right off of Fischer Blvd, posted some terrifying Facebook updates literally in the middle of the storm: 

It's starting guys. This isn't pretty. Crazy lightning. Wind is ridiculous. Things tied down flying everywhere. Radio not working at all. 

Hi guys. Water coming in house now. Police can't help. Entire neighborhood under water. Me an my parents FYI 2 feet of water in the house. Not really rising.

Still in the attic waiting for daylight to get out. We're all okay 

Obviously, for friends and family, it was pretty awful to see updates like this online knowing that there was literally nothing that you could do to help. Thankfully, the next day, he posted another update that he was safely evacuated and was with family elsewhere in Ocean County. These are the pictures that he took during his family's rescue:
