Smell Smoke? Controlled Burns Being Conducted in New Jersey🔥
Smell smoke? Think you see smoke? Don't panic because there are "controlled burns" occurring at certain locations in New Jersey. I noticed the "controlled burns" while driving the Garden State Parkway. I first smelled a bit of smoke and then I saw the billboard signs along the GSP that indicated there are "controlled burns" occurring in New Jersey.
According to a recent Patch article, controlled burns are happening today (Tuesday, March 12th) in the areas of Beachwood and Toms River. "The Ocean County Sheriff's Office said the burns are at Cattus Island County Park off Fischer Boulevard, and at Jakes Branch County Park in Beachwood."
The controlled burns help reduce the amount of burnable resources in area forests. The "prescribed burns" eliminate things like brush, leaves, etc. According to Patch, If you are in doubt about the source of smoke or fire, call 9-1-1 or 877-WARN-DEP (877-927-6337).
