I always enjoy the various surveys that single out each state's most popular something.

You might remember this piece about New Jersey's favorite Christmas candy (I'm still perplexed that it's Reese's Minis, but it was).

Or this one singling out Sour Patch Kids as the Garden State's favorite Halloween candy (again, really?).

So I went into the analysis of this map of each state's favorite Christmas movie with a lot of interest (and a little skepticism).

Housemethod.com included classics like Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life. Plus newer favorites like Home Alone and Elf.

But by far, the most popular Christmas movie across the country turned out to be A Christmas Story.

In fact, it wasn't even close.

A Christmas Story is the favorite in almost half the country, a total of 24 states, including right here in New Jersey.

Elf was in second place by a big gap, landing in the top spot for 11 states.

But what about the timeless classics?

Miracle on 34th Street only checks in for a single state (in fact, one of our smallest), topping the list in Delaware.

It's a Wonderful Life did just a little better, with a trio of scattered states claiming it as their favorite; Illinois, South Carolina, and Wyoming.
