Monday's usually a day for us to talk about our great weekends at the Jersey Shore.  But today, we're all feeling the sadness that came with the news of Christina Grimmie's murder and the terror attack in Orlando.  I feel like I'm in a bit of a funk and I'm guessing you might be too.  Why are there such evil people in the world doing such bad things?  It's so frustrating!

As I'm trying to get myself to feel better, I came upon this article which includes excellent suggestions on dealing with our frustration, anger, and sadness.

Among the tips, do some writing.  Put thoughts into a journal.  Maybe you have a knack for writing poetry?  You can use your creative talents, like Lin-Manuel Miranda did in last night's speech at the Tony Awards.  I'll never forget after 9/11 how some listeners faxed in poems that I read on the air.  There's something therapeutic about writing that helps people express themselves and feel connected to each other.

I hope you'll take some time today to look at the different ways of channeling negative emotions and then take some time to do one or several of them.  They're not meant to downplay these tragedies or minimize our feelings about them.  They're just tools we can use to help us get on with our days, being productive, rather than feeling stuck in the misery.

Which of the suggestions from the "50 Ways" article do you like the best?  Do you think you might try some of them?  What usually helps you cope with sad news?
