The Mascot Madness 2018 Finals Are Here!
18 Ocean County high school mascots, 3 rounds, thousands of votes, and 2 finalists.
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2018 Ocean County Mascot Madness finals are here!
Here's how the semifinal round shook out:
Matchup 1 - Barnegat Bengals (8) vs. Brick Township Green Dragons (2)
It was neck and neck all week long between the 8th seeded Barnegat Bengals and the 2nd seeded Brick Township Green Dragons.
In fact, it looked like the Bengals might pull off a major upset and ride their momentum to the finals. But in the end, the Brick voting bloc was just enough to pull the Green Dragons into the championship round.
Winner - Brick Township Green Dragons
Matchup 2 - Toms River South Indians (3) vs. Toms River North Mariners (4)
On the other hand, it was never close between the defending champion Toms River South Indians and the Toms River North Mariners.
The Mariners jumped out to a big lead from the start and the Indians just couldn't catch them.
Winner - Toms River North Mariners
Which brings us to the 2018 championship matchup:
Now, you'll remember that our first Mascot Madness championship went to the Toms River East Raiders, and the 2nd Annual Mascot Madness was won by the TR South Indians, so is this an indication that the Mascot Madness crown will stay in Toms River?
It's also worth noting that the Brick Township Green Dragons got exactly this far last year but finished as the runner up as the Indians decisively took the title.
So we have two compelling stories here - The Toms River North Mariners have watched the last two years as their Township rivals have taken the glory. But the Brick Township Green Dragons were burned last year by a Toms River team.
Will the Mariners prove that TR is tops, or will the Green Dragons roar ahead and break the streak?
Only you can answer those questions, voting is now open above!
Voting runs until Sunday, April 1st at midnight. You can vote once every 24 hours. Good luck!
