National Library Day ... Shout-Out to All Our Library Workers ..... Today (4/21) is National Library Day and although our libraries are closed due to the Coronavirus Crisis, we thought we'd give a shout out to all our Library Workers.
Have you ever seen a "Free Little Library?" They are these boxes on certain streets or outside of homes where people are welcome to take a book and then return that same book, or another. I've seen train stations in Jersey and the Philly suburbs where passengers are allowed to take a book or magazine for the ride. There's no cost. No due date. Everything is done on the honor system.
I remember in Reading seeing buses from all over the Northeast. As the first outlet center in America, VF was quite the destination. It's where we'd go to stock up on jeans, underwear, socks, sweatshirts, and bathrobes. Soon other brands would be available there so we bought shoes, tools, and sports gear. It was a common sight to see the parking lots filled with buses, and cars, and happy shoppers unloading purchases into the trunks of their cars so they could go back and find more great deals.
But as we saw over the weekend, this place has changed. Dramatically. There were no crowds or tour groups. There were still deals to be found and we're glad we went. But we both said we're probably not going to return.
There's something about this time of year that gets me reading. Don't you love devouring a book while sitting on the beach? And how about sitting on your deck or in your yard while flipping through your current novel or non-fiction title...
If you love to read then you don't wanna miss the annual "spring" book sale. The event is hosted by the Friends of the Toms River Library and takes place Thursday, June 1st through Saturday, June 3rd in Mancini Hall at the Library on Washington Street.
