A little of this and a little of that as the month of January winds down

It is Super Bowl week in Indianapolis with the Patriots arriving Sunday and the Giants getting to town today. Super Bowl 46 is set for this coming Sunday evening and it will be an anxious week for Giants fans as the clock clicks towards kickoff.

Speaking of the Super Bowl…it was that game that really made Joe Namath’s career. HBO is out with a documentary on the life of the former Jets great called Namath and in typical HBO fashion it is well done and well worth watching, even if you’re not a big football fan.

Its possible Rutgers could have a new football coach in the next 24-48 hours to replace the departed Greg Schiano. Multiple reports say that the search is focusing on two candidates, interim Coach Kyle Flood and former Rutgers assistant Mario Cristobal, who has guided Florida International to back-to-back bowl games.

AT THE MOVIES

Got the movies twice this weekend. “Man on a Ledge” is over the top with a scenario and story line that is just plan ridiculous and preposterous. However if you can check your intelligence at the door it is pretty exciting and has plenty of twists and turns. The best description I heard for “The Grey” is its Jaws with wolves instead of sharks. Actually it’s much more than that with a terrific performance by Liam Neeson. Don’t go see this one if you are looking for something light and cheery….it’s dark and serious but very well done and gripping.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BRICK MEMORIAL WRESTLING TEAM

Belated congratulations to Brick Memorial for adding to their record total by claiming their 13th Shore Conference Wrestling Tournament championship over the weekend. This one has a small asterisk next to it as top-seeded Jackson Memorial had to withdraw over the possibility that MRSA has hit members of the team. However give the Mustangs their due and at the same time credit Jackson with taking a proactive approach to a potential problem. Hopefully the Jaguars will get the green light to resume wrestling in a couple of days.

CONFUSED SEASONS

As a public service I would like to issue a report on something missing…WINTER. If you know where winter is please call meteorologist Alan Kasper. Mother Nature is so confused….grass is getting greener and some trees and bushes are starting to bloom. I’m not complaining.
