Ocean County’s Historic Extreme Weather
We've got some cold days coming up as we head towards this weekend, but at least we can keep one thing in mind - it could be worse!
That being said, looking back at the historic weather extremes for Toms River, this is exactly how extreme it's actually gotten in the past:
The Coldest December Days
1989 is recent enough that a lot of long time Ocean County residents probably remember it.
December of 1989 saw 5 days that dipped below 0, with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at -2 and -3 respectively!
The Snowiest Year
I don't want to jinx anything, but we've done ok with snow this year, with only about a foot having fallen in 2016.
But at least we're not experiencing the conditions that New Jerseyans did in 1961, when over 100 inches was recorded in the state!
The Warmest Christmas
Christmas Day 1964 felt more like late spring than winter, with the thermometer inching all the way up to 68 degrees!
