It's been the butt of jokes and the cause of embarrassment for almost a decade now, but what was once imagined as one of the biggest malls in the world could be a step closer to reality. But, of course, we've heard all of this before.

The story of The American Dream Mall (or, as it was more popularly known in a previous life, "Xanadu") is one that I've touched on before.

My fascination with this topic is, basically, how can something so ambitious and so far along in the development process (a huge portion of the infrastructure is already built) fail so spectacularly?

Well, news is coming out today that they haven't given up yet. Northjersey.com reports that the current developers are planning to raise $1.8 billion in yet another shot at bringing the project to completion.

By the way, that $1.8 billion is in addition to the around $3 billion that's already gone into the project.

So what do you think, will the mall come to fruition eventually, or will American Dream be just that, a dream?
