A day that felt like it would never come is coming this Thursday (October 1st) - the American Dream Mall will be open for both amusements and shopping.

If you've been in New Jersey for just about any period of time over the last two decades, you've certainly heard about American Dream (formerly Xanadu), the mega-mall that's been in the works at the Meadowlands on and off for nearly 20 years.

There's way too much to the saga to go into it all here, but you can catch up on our previous coverage by clicking here.

The short version, though, is that American Dream has been opening in phases going back a full year now.

The ice rink also operated for a little while, but that's as far as things got.

A year ago, reports pegged March of 2020 for the opening of the "mall" part of the American Dream Mall, but, then COVID hit the brakes on everything everywhere.

So, tomorrow, October 1, 2020 marks a big day with the expected reopening of both the Nickelodeon Universe theme park as well as the DreamWorks Water Park, plus the debut of one of the shopping areas.

According to NJ.com, only a trio of stores will be open tomorrow, including H&M, Primark, and Zara.

The same report says that 16 more retailers have been granted certificates of occupancy by the state, but opening dates on additional stores beyond the three specifically mentioned remain unclear.

In another report, NJ.com said that a pair of the complex's highly touted attractions, a massive aquarium and the Legoland Discovery Center won't open until at least next spring.
