A Toms River resident is dead after being hit by a pickup truck late last night on Route 9 in the township. It's the second road death in Toms River in 2012.

Edward Braden IV, 56, who lived in a dwelling fronting Route 70, was run down around 11 PM near the spot where the two highways intersect. The pickup was driven by Michael Fennessey, 64, of Brick Township. Investigators kept Route 9 traffic rerouted in the area for more than an hour.

Braden died a short time after being rushed to Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood. No charges have been filed in connection with the incident but it's still under investigation.
