No, this isn't an Ocean County Paranormal article, although this phenomenon could leave you with the same feeling in your gut as when you see an apparition. We're talking about dating.

I just saw this article from The New York Times about "ghosting", the practice of having a romantic interest totally disappear on you, like a ghost.

While reading the article, I realized - I've absolutely experienced this.

It's the situation when you're getting to know someone, communicating on a regular basis, and then the other person suddenly stops responding. Total radio silence with no explanation.

When I think about it, seeing this article actually made me feel a little better, now I know that this isn't something that just happens to me. I can take some comfort in that, right?

But it's still a bit of a head scratcher to me. The NYT story brings up some good points - maybe the other person is so ashamed and embarrassed that they don't know how to explain themselves - but I still think that as human beings with feelings, we at least owe each other the respect to be honest.

After all, how would they feel if the situation was reversed? Not very good, I'd guess.

But I'm not bitter.
