Did You Go To Summer Camp?

With school years wrapping up this week in Ocean County, a lot of kids will be heading off to spend their Summers with nature at a Summer camp.

The picture above is from my favorite place in the whole world - Camp Watonka in the Pennsylvania Poconos.

I spent my summers there from about ages 10 to 21, both as a camper and later as a counselor. The friends I made at Summer camp are some of my closest friends still to this day.

It was one of those things that I looked forward to every year. No matter where I was living at the time, whether we had moved or even after I went to college, my Summers were always spent at Watonka.

Even if it isn't a sleepover camp, I think that every kid should have the opportunity to spend some time away from the highways, malls, and light pollution of daily life here in Ocean County, and enjoy some time in unspoiled nature.
