Construction Begins On The First Recreational Cannabis Dispensary in Ocean County

It has almost been a year since legalized recreational cannabis went on sale here in New Jersey. On April 21, 2022, licensed sales of recreational cannabis began in the Garden State.

According to New Jersey Monitor, "When New Jersey’s industry launched nine months ago, the only places that could legally sell recreational cannabis were existing corporate medical marijuana facilities that received approval to sell adult-use weed also. Hundreds of microbusinesses and retailers have had applications approved by the state, but have yet to open. Some officials believe there will be a boom in mom-and-pop weed shops in April."

It was almost a year ago when I traveled to South Jersey for the initial opening of "recreational" cannabis dispensaries here in Jersey. Hundreds were lined up to celebrate the initial opening of legal rec "weed" sales in New Jersey. As mentioned in the New Jersey Monitor article, we may see a big increase in dispensaries come spring. One issue that Jersey dispensaries face is price. "New Jersey’s first small business medical cannabis dispensary, Valley Wellness, opened in Raritan in early December. There still isn’t much of a price difference compared to corporate stores — an online menu shows eighths up to $65 — because they don’t have their own growing operation."

So that leads us to current "cannabis" news here in Ocean County. Construction is underway on the first "recreational" cannabis dispensary here in Ocean County.

The "Social Leaf Dispensary" has begun construction at its future location which will be at 334/336 Atlantic City Blvd in South Toms River. There is no word yet on any opening date, but as soon as we get the official word we will pass that along to you.

According to NJ.com, there is one recreational adult-use store in Burlington County. Curaleaf in Edgewater Park. There are two located in Monmouth County. Zen Leaf in Neptune and Garden State Dispensary in Eatontown.
