Ahead Of Friday’s Mischief Night, Some NJ Towns Enact Curfews

There are a few things that are unique to us here in New Jersey - pork roll, pumping our own gas, and mischief night, the latter of which I didn't realize until I lived outside of New Jersey and people would look at me like I had three heads when I asked what happens in their neck of the woods when the night before Halloween rolled around.

If you grew up in the Garden State though, you know that when you wake up on October 31st, you'll probably pass by at least a few trees with toilet paper streaming from their branches.

In my childhood, mischief night was just that, mostly harmless pranks like the aforementioned TP'd trees or soaped-up cars.

But, some New Jersey towns are setting curfews this year in an effort to keep teenagers off the streets during the nights leading up to Halloween so mischief night doesn't become misdemeanor night, instead.

News 12 is reporting on just two of those towns, Harrington Park (Bergen County) and South Amboy (Middlesex County), with Harrington Park prohibiting anybody under 18 from being out between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. on both Friday night, October 30th, and Saturday night, October 31st.

The South Amboy restrictions are even tighter, with a 7 p.m. through 6 a.m. curfew from Thursday through Saturday.

Similarly, there have also been curfews set in towns like Milltown (Middlesex County), Cinnaminson, (Burlington County), and South River (Middlesex County) among others.
