What Ever Happened to 2012?

It took me thinking about next year's football season of all things to realize remember that 2012 is only weeks away, so what ever happened to the doomsday prediction?

It seems like last year talks about the Mayan's prediction of the end of the world were all the rage, heck there was even a movie about it. Now it seems we've all forgotten about a perfectly good topic to blow out of proportion and dominate conversation at upcoming holiday parties.

I wonder if Harold Camping's seemingly endless apocolyptic predictions didn't wear us out too early? Or perhaps with the economy not improving as quickly as we'd like combined with instability all over the world, we have to be a little more pragmatic.
