ShawnieMikes Radio Reviews "The Book of Odds"

This new book just came out this week, it's all about "Odds" with an interesting look at various topics. The book does seem to tackle more "adult" themes, so it's not a kids book. Topics like "Singles & Dating", "Love, Marriage and Divorce", and "Beliefs & Fears"

It's a look at life through numbers .....

Odds of an American adult having reported a UFO sighting? 1 in 5.8

Probability of a woman being married by age 30 .... 1 in 1.4 ..... Coincidentally, the same odds as an NBA team scoring at least 90 points in a game.

What are the odds that a college-aged girl on her Spring Break will return with a brand new tongue piercing? 1 in 14.3

So as you can see a quirky look at life through numbers , that makes for an interesting read. The book is available in paperback and I definitely think you may see some of this material make its way into the Morning Coffee Contest.

The book is written by Amram Shapiro, Louise Firth Campbell and Rosalind Wright. Their mission is to help you better understand the world around you and make informed decisions in the face of uncertainty. I'm enjoying the book, its the type of read that you do a little here and a little there .... and hopefully gain a little knowledge doing it ! The only drawback is that at times the "topics" are pretty intense and not so fun, not that it was the intent of the book to be fun, but the mood can be a little somber....maybe a "lighter" version might make for better water cooler talk ( Accidents & Death ) are never good conversation starters .

The Odds a person will die from a vending machine accident in a year .... 1 in 112,000,000
