Update: Reward Offered in Ocean County
Here's an update to our story this week: Officials at the Associated Humane Society Popcorn Park Shelter are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in this case that left 3 birds dead and one injured as officials seek to find the guilty party.
I live in an area that has many ducks, swans and geese that use our local waterways to live and at times will cross roadways to get from one pond or lake to another ... and yes I brake and will wait until they cross, however recently in Ocean Gate it appears a motorist decided to just mow down the birds running them over and leaving them to die. It is amazing that we even have to report a crime like this, but yes there are still people who have no respect for life.
According to a recent article in the Berkeley Patch, the incident happened along Ocean Gate Drive. At least three birds were struck and a fourth left injured. This on top of several others which have been senselessly killed in the past several weeks. This also on the heels of a horrible story about a dog who was killed, stuffed into a suitcase and thrown into a lake in Asbury Park. This behavior is UNACCEPTABLE! So slow down, pay attention and give our defenseless wildlife a "brake."
What kind of person commits such crimes against animals ?
