When I think of the word "hero", I think of the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to help others. With that in mind, a Florida Trooper with an Ocean County connection is a true hero.

According to Florida's Bay News 9, Trooper Robert Duckers was helping a motorist on the highway who had broken down. While assisting the driver, another vehicle veered off the highway, crashed into a group of trees, and burst into flames.

That's when Trooper Duckers lept into action.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the hero cop broke the window of the flaming vehicle to pull the unconscious driver out of the deadly wreck, and gave first aid until emergency services arrived.

Trooper Duckers suffered minor injuries from broken glass and the vehicle fire, and was treated and released from a local hospital.

While an amazing story, why is this of interest to us? Robert Duckers is an Ocean County local - he's a 2011 graduate of Toms River High School South.

The true definition of a hero, we commend Trooper Duckers for his bravery!
