Watching the Academy Awards last night, I found myself wondering what the nominees were like when they were young.  Did they perform in their grade school's holiday show?  Did they play a dancing tree in the Spring Festival?  Was it a role in "Guys and Dolls" that made them fall in love with acting?

Josh Groban famously talks about playing the lead in his high school's production of "Fiddler on the Roof" when he was 18.  Imagine being in the audience in 1999 and seeing what a huge star he would become!

I like to watch musicals put on by school and community groups.  It's exciting to spot the performers who really have "it."  It's neat to see some youngsters really shine on stage.  It gives me the feeling and hope that I might see them on Broadway some day!

So for today's blog post, I want to recognize all of you theatre companies who put on shows in Ocean and Monmouth Counties.  Use the Comments section to tell us what show you're working on next.  Also write a line or two about why local residents should buy tickets.  (As you know, it's so easy for folks to get comfy in their routine of watching TV at night, rather than going out to see a live performance.)

And for those of you who HAVE attended local school or community productions, which one was your favorite?

Finally, to ANY of you who have ever performed in a drama or musical on a stage in Ocean or Monmouth, please share your favorite moment.  Even if you didn't pursue a career in theatre, what did you like about performing here?
