A trail of blood leads Lakewood investigators to the suspect they've accused of settling an argument with a knife Sunday night.

Esteban Morales Torres, 24, was charged with aggravated assault for the alleged attack outside El Oxaqueno Bakery, according to information on the Lakewood Police Facebook page.

Investigators said that two men were seen engaged in a verbal confrontation ins the bakery just before 11:30 PM on April 26.

After they exited the shop, the victim, a Jackson 19-year-old, returned with a stab wound in his stomach, police said. He was given hospital treatment for what was described as a non-life-threatening wound.

Investigators, with help from an Ocean County Sheriff K-9 team, followed the bloody trail along a set of railroad tracks to a house on Edgewsood Court, where Torres was arrested, police said. He was held on $35,000 full bail.

Daniel Morales Mexquititle, 19, was charged with hindering and simple assault in connection with the stabbing. His bail was set at $5,000, also with no option for release on payment of 10 percent.

Authorities are trying to collect more facts and to determine a motive.
