⚖️ Ocean County man sentenced for fatal shooting that took place in Lakewood

⚖️ The Lakewood resident allegedly shot Little Egg Harbor man in the chest

⚖️ He was also charged with various drug offenses


A Lakewood man was sentenced to seven concurrent years in state prison related to the shooting death of a Little Egg Harbor resident in the township on February 21, 2021, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer.

Jahvontae Debose, 26, of Lakewood was arrested a few days following the shooting where township police found 20-year old Dajour Randolph of LEH suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest on Tudor Court around 7:40 pm.

Randolph was brought to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood where he later passed away.

His death was later ruled a homicide following a post-mortem by the Ocean County Medical Examiner due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Debose was arrested at a motor vehicle stop two days following the shooting in Pleasantville by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Strike Force.

In addition to being charged with Manslaughter, which he pleaded guilty to and has been sentenced for, Debose was also charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm in the Course of Committing a Drug Offense, and being a Certain Person Not to Possess a Weapon.

For the weapon charge, he received a seven year sentence that will run concurrent to the Manslaughter sentence and the seven years for the Firearm-Drug Offense charge as well as for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.

The investigation into the drug deal turned fatal was conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department, Lakewood Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.

Prosecutor Billhimer also said that Ocean County Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Kristin Pressman and Ocean County Assistant Prosecutor Victoria Veni handled the case on behalf of the State.
