Hit-and-Run Driver Crashes into a Lakewood Home and Ruptures Gas Meter
Two Lakewood homes had to be evacuated overnight and Conrail suspended service after police said a Township man smashed into a parked car and a home on East County Line Road, near Park Avenue, rupturing a gas meter. No one was injured.
Romeo Diaz Hernandez was issued ten tickets, including reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. After flipping his car, authorities said Hernandez fled the scene with his registration information, but returned later and was issued the citations.
New Jersey Natural Gas crews checked to make sure gas levels were safe in the area and residents were allowed to return to their homes. Conrail also resumed service.
