With polls showing Republican candidate Tom MacArthur leading Democrat Aimee Belgard in race to replace GOP Congressman Jon Runyan, the clock is ticking for Democrats to sway Independent voters.

"One of the things they [Democrats] may try to do, would be to tie the Republican candidate to two factors: One, he doesn't live here. He's basically moved in to run for office from Morris County and secondly, to tie him to some of the anti-woman decisions that the Democrats point to when they attack Republicans," said Richard Strada, retired Political Science Professor at Ocean County College in Toms River.

"It's really 'Get Out the Vote' to win this election," he said.

The election in the Third District no longer has any real hotbeds for the Democrats to up the ante in getting out more Democrats, according to Strada. "So, they've got to get into the Independents and play up the issues," he said.
