Republican Newt Gingrich says Mitt Romney’s call for self-deportation of illegal immigrants is an “Obama-level” fantasy that is inhumane to long-established families living in America.

The former House speaker ridiculed that part of Romney’s immigration policy during a forum Wednesday with the Spanish-language network Univision. Gingrich laughed at the idea and said it wouldn’t work.

Romney said during a recent debate that he favors what he calls “self-deportation” over policies that require the federal government to round up illegal immigrants and send them back to their home countries.

Gingrich says Romney’s proposal reflects a candidate who lives, in his words, “in a world of Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Island accounts.” That was a jab at Romney’s wealth.

Romney was taping his own segment with Univision later Wednesday.

Vice President Joe Biden says he can’t find “any fundamental difference” between Republican presidential rivals Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney, even though the two are fighting each other fiercely for the party’s nomination.

Asked in a nationally broadcast interview to comment on the race in the GOP for a candidate to challenge President Barack Obama, Biden called “a Republican fight.”

But he also called Gingrich “a talented guy.” Says Biden: “The guy is really good.”

However, on the critical issues facing the nation, including economic strategy and foreign affairs, Biden said that both Gingrich and Romney are pushing policies that the Obama administration doesn’t embrace.

The vice president made the comments in an interview Wednesday on “CBS This Morning.”

Does House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi have dark secrets about GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich?

For the second time in recent weeks, she hinted that she does. And then indicated she doesn’t.

In a CNN interview Tuesday night, Pelosi said that Gingrich is not going to be president. Asked why she’s so sure, Pelosi said there is something she knows.

Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said Wednesday that what she knows is that Gingrich will not be president.

Previously, Pelosi hinted that she knew a lot about Gingrich because she served on the House Ethics Committee that investigated his conduct. She later said she was referring to material already in the public record.

Gingrich called Pelosi’s remarks baloney, and said if she knows something, she should come out with it.
