Earth Day was officially started 44 years ago as, "...a way to honor the Earth and the concept of peace". Since 1970, the celebration has grown to almost 200 countries.
While we think about ways that we can help with preservation today, here are some small things that we can do every day for the planet:
- Recycle - "Recycling one can saves enough energy to run your TV for three hours"
- Travel smart - "Americans waste over 700 million gallons of gasoline each year just because tires aren’t properly inflated."
- Charge responsibly - Unplug your cell phone and gadget chargers when they're not being used, "Your chargers are using electricity even though your electronic devices are not connected to them."
- Kill the lights - When you were growing up did your mom nag you to shut off the lights when you leave a room? It not only saves money on your electricity bill, but if we all do this, it can have a huge snowball effect on electricity demands!
