Is it Taylor Ham or Pork Roll? New Jersey residents have been fighting about this since the beginning of time...and a Seaside Heights bagel shop might have just settled it.
Competitive eating is remarkable. We all might think it's a little gross that someone can shove 85 meatballs into their mouth but we have to give credit where credit is due. Men and women from all over the world continue to break outrageous eating records. For example, in 2018 Carmen Cincotti ate 2.43 gallons of chili in 6 minutes, and how about in 2005, Cookie Jarvis ate over 8 pounds of grapes in 10 minutes. All competitive eaters are highly skilled but no one can compare to Joey Chestnut.
So we always hear how “pork roll” is a “Jersey” thing, but what about chocolate covered pork roll? A.K.A. Taylor Ham ! I do agree that pork roll, that’s what I call it, is a real Jersey thing and you can only get good pork roll, egg and cheese here in the Garden State. Any out of state pork roll just can’t compare, you have to get the real deal here in Jersey. As for the “Taylor Ham” debate, there’s no debate.....it’s pork roll.
I was speaking with one of my favorite "New Jerseyans" and his favorite thing is of course, pork roll. He said it reminds him of home and family. "Others try to make that perfect pork roll but there's nothing like a true New Jersey pork roll sandwich."
Hey Jersey, now that the weather has heated up, why not cool off with a scoop of Taylor Ham ice cream? Here's the NJ spot offering it. (Cue pork roll debate!) Plus, it's just the first of a few 'Only in Jersey' flavors!
