It's been long enough! What's going on with Beachwood Shopping Center?

Yesterday's uncommon East Coast earthquake that many here in Ocean County felt, myself included, along with this week's news of 10 drug busts at a notorious local motel got me thinking about the fact that there are some things that we probably wouldn't miss if they were swallowed up by the Earth.

First steps begin in what's expected to be a long process in removing the Beachwood Shopping Center in Berkeley Township. Mayor Carmen Amato Jr. said owner Priscilla Oughton is in the process of pre-demolition work and has hired a contractor for the Route 9 site.

$40-thousand dollar fines accumulate daily against the owner of the dilapidated fenced-in Beachwood Shopping Center in Berkeley Township.

As you’re traveling along Route 9 in Bayville it’s hard to miss.  A hotdog hut situated in front of the vast fenced-in. paved acreage of the dilapidated and now vacant Beachwood Mall.

The owner of the Beachwood Shopping Center on Route 9 in Bayville now faces $40-thousand dollars a day in fines for the condition of the property.

If you drive Route 9 through Berkeley Township, then you've probably seen that dilapidated eyesore of a shopping center.

Officials in Berkeley Township have reason to celebrate.  A long awaited project that would bring a Town Center to the Township is moving forward thanks to an approval from the state.
