Hanna Krause Candy will be a part of Shawn & Sue's Chocolate Explosion next Tuesday

Alfred Krause apprenticed as a candy maker in Germany. At age 13 he immigrated to the United States and settled in Long Island, NY where his passion in candy making continued. After working long hours at his job, he would spend any spare time he had, studying about chocolate and candy making. In 1929 Alfred and his bride, Hanna opened a gas station in Wyandanch, NY. In addition to selling gasoline, they began giving out a free homemade lollypop with each purchase of five gallons of gas or more. It wasn't long before customers started asking to purchase a dozen lollypops or more for birthday parties. Soon, due to the war and gas rationing, the gasoline part of the business began to decline. Hanna and Alfred closed the gas station and opened a coffee shop which offered Hanna's Cakes, Ice cream and Homemade Candies. They soon found that they were making more money selling their candy, so they devoted all their time to that confection.
And Mrs. Hanna Krause's Homemade Candy was born.
Four generations of confectioners have followed in the Krause's dreams. Hanna's daughter and her husband Karl, granddaughter's Linda and Karen and great grandson Michael all keep the tradition going in the Paramus NJ store which opened in 1957. Each one does their share, whether it be cooking, creating our fine chocolates or diligently running the store. Her grandson Wayne & his wife Gail have their store in Toms River, NJ. Opened in 1982, They were voted Best Candy Store in Ocean County, by the Peoples Choice Awards run by the Ocean County Observer. All of our candies are made with the purest, freshest ingredients. Everything is cooked and handdipped on the premises, the same way it was done back in 1929. Hanna and Alfred would be proud that the
Krause name and quality lives on through their offspring.
In Remembering Hanna Krause; THEY'RE NOT JUST CANDY, WE'RE A TRADITION.
