Rutgers Football Scores Big Points in Toms River

It seems like there is so much bad going on in the world let me tell about something good.

I’m sure many of you by now have heard about the RWJBarnabas Health Field of Dreams, a unique inclusive recreational complex created for the special needs community.  Located on North Bay Avenue near the police station in Toms River it was founded by Christian and Mary Kane and inspired by their now 11-year old son Gavin and features a multi-purpose athletic field, playground area, miniature golf course, basketball and bocce courts and so much more.  Most importantly it was designed for the special needs community and is set up to accommodate them.

Earlier this week a group of Rutgers Scarlet Knights football players made the trip down to play a game against the Toms River Warriors Inspirational Team…a group of players between 10 and 21 who love playing football.

The Rutgers group included senior running back Parker Day, a sixth-year senior who was a standout at Toms River North (Class of 2017).  Day who has earned multiple Academic All-Big Ten honors and several of his teammates gave it their best effort but fell to the Warriors 42-12.  Also noteworthy was the fact that several players from Toms River East came by to support the effort which was cheered on by a nice crowd of family and friends.

This was a win-win all around as the Rutgers group gave up their time to make a positive impact on a group of kids and young adults who now have a place to call their own…one that was designed and built with them in mind.

Rutgers may be struggling on the field but to those associated with the Field of Dreams they are champions.
