This New Jersey Deli Is So Good People Come From Out Of State To Eat!

Depending on where you live, you might get a very different answer. In North Jersey, “sub” seems to be the popular choice, while “hoagie” is heard more often in South Jersey, thanks in part to the Philadelphia influence.

But let’s be honest, we’re basically talking about the same delicious sandwich! Give me a good roll, plenty of meat and cheese, some lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar, and I’m happy.

I know it sounds like a cop-out, but I have called this sandwich both a hoagie and a sub. I guess depending on where I am when ordering.

So what do you call it? Hoagie or sub? In New Jersey, that question can start quite a debate!

Where In New Jersey Can You Find Great Hoagies?

According to Family Travel Forum, Carmen's Deli in Camden County has some of the best hoagies/subs in the Garden State. This deli has been making folks smile since 1966 in Ballmawr, New Jersey.

Carmen's was also featured on the Food Network website in their "Top Places To Eat" section. One review said, My wife is from S. Jersey, grew up on Carmens, and I drove 2 hrs to get this sandwich. Helped I had a job in the area, but, Yup, that good!!!! Can't wait to go back!!

Two hoagies that seem to get big attention are the "cheesesteak," which is known as the "Big Daddy," and the Italian hoagie, the "Rosie Special".

People have been known to come from out of state to get hoagies at Carmen's and enjoy Del Buono's bakery too.
