🔵 Investigation underway into the circumstances of how rabbits were discovered

🔵 The rabbits found are now being treated in Toms River


An investigation is underway after 22 rabbits were removed from a shed outside of a home on Harrison Road in Toms River on Sunday.

Toms River Police said they got a call from Toms River Animal Control about the rabbits and an HLEO (Humane Law Enforcement Officer) officer who responded to the scene made the discovery between the backyard and shed.

The conditions in which the rabbits were found was so deplorable that the Berkeley Hazmat Team had to be called in to help in removing the animals which have since been brought to the Toms River Animal Shelter for care.

Further information is not yet available as the investigation is still in the infancy stages.

Toms River Police said that the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Ocean County Health Department are also involved in this investigation.

Second recent case in Ocean County of animals found in deplorable conditions

It was nearly two months ago now that 180 cats and dogs were found in inhumane, deplorable conditions inside of a home in Brick Township.

There were two women, dubbed the "Crazy Rescue Ladies" were charged in the incident and they even doubled down on trying to get the animals back at one point, but, to no avail.

Most of the rescued dogs and cats have since been adopted.
